Most festivals sell you a field, a weekend and a tent. Time Warp sells you one night. Doors open on a Saturday evening at the Maimarkthalle, a trade-fair hall on the edge of Mannheim, and the music runs through to Sunday lunchtime. There is no camping and very little spectacle beyond the light rigs. For more than three decades that formula has made Time Warp one of the fixed points of the European techno calendar, and the line-up for the next edition, published on 5 November 2026, shows why people still plan their spring around it.

What is Time Warp Mannheim?

Time Warp is an indoor house and techno event whose flagship edition takes place each spring in Mannheim, in south-west Germany. The first edition took place in November 1994 in Ludwigshafen, the industrial city directly across the Rhine. The brand later settled in Mannheim, and the Maimarkthalle has been its regular home since 2000. It has also travelled: over the years Time Warp has staged editions abroad, from New York to São Paulo, but the German night remains the flagship.

The format is the point. Instead of a day programme with headliners squeezed into one-hour slots, Time Warp runs as a single continuous night across several floors, each with its own production. The long night leaves room for extended sets, and the crowd tends to come for specific artists and specific rooms rather than for the experience of being at a festival. If you have read our breakdown of the different festival formats, Time Warp is the textbook example of an indoor festival.

When and where is Time Warp 2027?

The 2027 edition takes place on Saturday 3 April 2027 at the Maimarkthalle, Xaver-Fuhr-Straße 101 in Mannheim. The official site lists the hours as 21:00 to 14:00, which means you will leave on Sunday afternoon. Entry is 18+, and the organisers describe it as the only German Time Warp of 2027.

The announced programme lists 49 artists across five floors: three main floors, the Glaspavillon and the Maimarktclub. Each floor gets its own sound and light concept, so moving between rooms feels like changing clubs rather than changing stages.

Who is playing Time Warp 2027?

The 2027 bill is a good snapshot of where techno stands right now, because it covers almost every branch of it. There is the old guard that has shaped Time Warp for years: Sven Väth, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice and Nina Kraviz. There is the peak-time techno of the current era, with Charlotte de Witte, Enrico Sangiuliano, Joseph Capriati, PAN-POT and Sama' Abdulhadi. And there is the faster, harder sound that has pulled a younger audience into techno, represented by I Hate Models, Indira Paganotto, Funk Tribu, Kalte Liebe and Novah. Our explainer on what to expect at a hard techno festival covers that side of the scene in more detail.

House and tech house come from Seth Troxler, Mau P, Josh Baker and Dennis Cruz, while Jane Fitz, Cinthie and Rhadoo stand for the deeper, more underground end of the night. WhoMadeWho appear with a hybrid DJ set, a reminder that the line between live act and DJ booking keeps getting blurrier.

The most telling part of the announcement, though, is the list of back-to-backs:

  • Ben Klock & Rødhåd, two of the defining voices of Berlin's deep, hypnotic techno
  • Kevin de Vries & Maceo Plex, a pairing from the melodic end of the spectrum
  • Ben UFO & Enzo Siragusa, an eclectic selector meeting a minimal-house specialist
  • Alarico, Chlär & Yanamaste, billed as a world-premiere set
  • Cloudy & KI/KI, Carlita & Rossi., Beltran & Ben Sterling, Adiel & Quest, fumi & ÜBERKIKZ and Mischluft & Serafina

Why are there so many B2B sets at Time Warp?

Ten of the 38 slots on the official bill are back-to-backs, and together they account for 21 of the 49 artists. That is not an accident. For a festival, a back-to-back is a way to create something that cannot be heard anywhere else that year. Two artists who both tour constantly become a one-off, and a one-off gives people a reason to travel. For the artists, it is a chance to play differently: shared sets force quicker decisions, more risk and more interplay than a solo slot of familiar tracks.

There is also a business logic. A B2B lets a booker put two strong names on one slot in a long night with a finite number of stages, and it gives the announcement itself a story. We have written about the business behind back-to-backs in more depth, but the short version is this: when a line-up leans on B2Bs, it is selling moments, not just names. At Time Warp, where many regulars have seen the solo sets of these artists before, that matters.

For you as a guest, the practical consequence is simple. B2B slots are the ones most likely to be crowded, and the ones you will regret missing. Mark them first when the timetable comes out.

How do you survive a night that long?

A 17-hour indoor night is a different kind of endurance test from an open-air weekend. Most of it is spent in big halls where time is hard to track, and the temptation is to go all in from the first hour. A few principles help:

  • Plan around two or three must-see sets, not around the whole timetable. Everything else is a bonus, and moving between floors constantly wears you out faster than dancing does.
  • Use the quieter hours. Around the middle of the night, take a proper break: sit down, eat, drink water. People who pace themselves are the ones still standing when the closing sets begin.
  • Protect your ears. Seventeen hours of club-level sound is a lot. Good earplugs do not ruin the mix; they make it possible to hear the last set as clearly as the first.
  • Check the rules before you go. Ticket types, payment methods, cloakroom and bag rules can change from year to year. The official info page is the only reliable source, and tickets should only come from official channels or the organisers' resale platform.
  • Sort out the way home. You will leave in the afternoon, tired. Book accommodation early, or arrange a ride in advance.

And expect the Monday afterwards to hurt. That flat, wrecked feeling has a name and a reason, which we explain in our piece on post-festival blues.

Is Time Warp worth it for a first-timer?

If you love techno or house as music rather than as a backdrop, yes. Time Warp is less about the event and more about the programming: you get many of the genre's major names in one building and production that is built around sound and light rather than fireworks. The audience is international and knowledgeable, which shapes the atmosphere. People come to listen as much as to party.

If what you want is a weekend in the sun, a campsite and a main stage with a countdown drop, a summer open-air will suit you better. Time Warp knows exactly what it is: a rave in a hall, done at a very high level, for one night. That clarity is why it has lasted while so many other events have come and gone.
